Kenya Urban Food Security Assessment Survey

Food security remains a critical concern in Kenya’s urban areas, where economic disparities and high living costs often exacerbate vulnerability to hunger and malnutrition.

To address this challenge, the World Food Programme (WFP) Kenya sought a reliable partner to conduct a comprehensive assessment of urban food security in Kenya. The goal was to generate data that would inform targeted interventions and policy decisions.

To achieve this, we partnered with WFP Kenya to execute the Kenya Urban Food Security Assessment Survey.

Project Execution and Key Deliverables

We implemented a methodological and data-driven approach to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the survey.

The project’s key milestones included:

1. Development of a Sampling Framework: A robust framework was designed to ensure representativeness across urban populations.
2. Selection of Sampling Units: Specific urban areas and households were strategically identified for data collection.
3. Field Coordination: A well-structured plan was executed to manage data collection efficiently across diverse urban settings.
4. Generation of Datasets: Comprehensive datasets were generated to facilitate in-depth analysis and reporting.

Impact

Through this assessment, WFP Kenya gained valuable data-driven insights into urban food security dynamics, enabling more effective planning and intervention strategies.

The project has:

1. Highlighted key food security trends in urban Kenya, helping policymakers understand vulnerabilities and challenges.
2. Provided evidence-based recommendations for targeted food assistance and resilience-building programs.
